My 30 year career includes 15+ years in software development, and hands-on experience owning and managing a profitable business. I’ve personally built, iterated, and managed software (full stack) that is still used to serve Fortune 500 companies.
For the past 8 years, I've consulted organizations of all sizes including startups, small-to-medium, commercial, enterprise, and government. To name a few: Amazon, GE (multiple business units), Disney, HP, AMD, Salesforce, NBC Universal, CVS, Shell, Allegis, the US Army, US Navy, and Veterans Affairs. I’ve helped these organizations gather requirements for, architect, prototype, pilot, and launch both B2B and B2C applications for dozens of use cases.
In my most recent roles, I’m engineering an enterprise-grade platform for B2B and B2C low / no-code apps, applying my direct experience and team mentorship / collaboration skills to help our product deliver outsized value to our Users and Customers.

I have deep experience working with stakeholders from executive to individual contributor and across the software disciplines (design, backend, integration, frontend), as well as business product owners, SMEs, or input providers to gather, evaluate, and influence the necessary requirements to assure strong implementation success. I’m able to translate and educate from technical to non-technical for all audiences, I’ve delivered product training, and I work within my engineering team to help mentor and guide development towards optimal approaches.
I am well versed in Scrum/Agile project management methodologies, with experience both as a team member and a team leader. I've also run several projects with small development teams, managing the entire lifecycle of those projects.
Skuid is an extensible low-code platform for application interface development. I have served in several positions at Skuid both in deliveries/proserve and product engineering. My abilities to plan at the system level and work at the granular level have afforded me many advantages in these positions.
As a software engineer at Skuid, I work primarily on our “managed cloud” offering as a backend developer. I have a few primary focuses in this role.
These areas of concern consist of several micro-services which I and my team maintain and expand. They each are written in either Golang or Javascript+Typescript (nodejs). They use PostgreSQL for configuration storage and connect to client-owned SQL databases with rich data security and access controls. These connections serve as the backbone for Skuid’s frontend application development toolkit.
The Skuid product is a very “new thing”, and as such presents an interesting challenge regarding what it ought to implement, and how. My background in other commercial and enterprise application development has given me the ability to thoughtfully influence the direction of the Skuid product. It is gratifying to see something I’ve been so involved with be successful at solving challenges for other companies.
Working as a solution engineer and architect at Skuid provided me with exposure to many industries and tech stacks.
My primary role in both positions was to implement applications built with the Skuid toolkit for Skuid’s clients. Tasks included communicating with the client throughout the development lifecycle, initial discovery, requirements gathering, story-writing, user interface design, database schema consultation and implementation, declarative implementation with the Skuid toolkit, authoring extension libraries for the Skuid frontend, deployment, processing user feedback, and development iteration.
Additionally, as a Solution Architect, my responsibilities expanded to determining high-level technical approaches and leading implementation teams. Our favorite projects are the ones where our team was brought in early in the design phase, and we were able to be with the project through to the end.
I have served as engineer, architect, or both for projects with the Armed Services and other government agencies, as well as for Fortune 500 enterprises in the following industries:
Piledriver Consulting provided short-term outsourced development services. I have assisted companies by helping build report applications that are outside the scope or abilities of their ERP applications, and have been involved in upgrading and maintaining critical applications. This typically involved adapting older reports, fixing database tables and views, and general cleanup and validation required for migrating to newer applications.
I was also part of a group of 5 friends with varying IT skills who would contract out our services to larger businesses after-hours for the purpose of reducing IT backlog for those businesses. Our tasks included everything from hardware retirement to major ERP migrations/upgrades. While the work itself could occasionally be frustrating, this was still a very enjoyable and rewarding time in my career. There was little else I would rather have been doing on a Thursday night than be set up in some company’s conference room with a group of friends at their laptops cranking through a variety of technical challenges.
Custom Intercept Solutions is a market research company that provides online, on-site, and customized market research and data collection services.
I developed cross-platform custom applications for market analysis and data collection, as well as integrated and streamlined new applications with existing first- and third-party software.
I designed and built a new market research and statistical analysis suite from the ground up which is used both by Custom Intercept Solutions (CIS) and their clients for advanced statistical market analysis. These tools are easily adapted to the ever-changing demands of the market research industry and Custom Intercept Solutions' clientele.
Golden Technologies, Inc. is a small technology company which provides custom web application development, database consulting, and development methodology training, as well as training and apprenticeship opportunities for people looking to start careers in software development and/or business management.
Renoun Computers, LLC was a local computer sales and support company focused on bringing custom computing and network solutions to consumers and small/medium businesses in rural Minnesota. I served in all roles of a small business owner: sales, marketing, bookkeeping, networking, etc., as well as various contracted roles including network administration and mobile fleet computer management.
